why anti-parrotnia? (edited)

My host doubts a lot. But that's okay now for us because there's just enough proof. ^w^
Avatar
We were expanding on overthinking leading to doubt. I overthink a lot so blind faith is something I have trouble getting into at first. But now I see how it works. There's my proof.

Brain generates a ton of thoughts. We pick and choose which ones are ours.

Sounds like meditation would help
Avatar
She means in general. IIRC the brain generates thousands of thoughts every minute
Avatar
That sounds like a lot. What constitutes a thought?
Avatar
In their most common sense, the terms thought and thinking refer to conscious cognitive processes that can happen independently of sensory stimulation.
8:10 PM
My bad, the average human has 6.5 thoughts per minute or around 6,000 per day
Avatar
Lucilyn: people with anxiety increase that average a lot (edited)
8:12 PM
uh, hard to define "a thought" though, where do you cut thinking in sentences?
Avatar
I mean each sentence could be considered a complete thought and you can link them together; this sentence alone could be considered three thoughts at once

Why is a common question on this server breathing related
10:21 PM
OK maybe not common but in tulpa questions I seen twice someone ask what breathing is like
Avatar
Do many people's tulpas not know what breathing feels like? For me, we're both hooked up to the body's senses so to speak. That sounds really weird to have a tulpa not be.
Avatar
No. What I mean is A host would have problems with a thoughtform, tulpa or otherwise, then someone will ask "what does your breathing feel like".
Avatar
Weird 😮

Why is that a question asked why is it secretive

When answered
Avatar
The reason leiko asked that to me was to see if i was nervous or having a breakdown or something
Avatar
Lucilyn: yeah just has to do with panicking/needing to calm down (edited)

not a tulpamancy specific thing

ah that makes sense. Sorry I was beiong intrusive

@Deleted User A tulpa is another person you make in your head

Is it some kind of "persona"?
Avatar
A long kiss goodnight 5/5/2023 11:58 PM
People do genuinely practice tulpamancy. The typical understanding tulpamancers have is you don't need a separate brain to be another person, so by practicing tulpamancy, you can create another person in your mind. Some people compare it to imaginary friends but more advanced. At its core, it's about convincing you have another person in your head. The crazy part is this works

Some people do interpret tulpas as other identies, personas, or versions of themself. However, I suspect the majority of tulpamancers see their tulpas as separate enough individuals, given the limitation of sharing a brain of course.

How does it works for you?

For me, it's a little tricky because it depends on if I'm in charge of the body or not. We call this switching. Right now I'm not in charge of the body, but I am controlling it with Gray's (my host's) permission. For me, I have my own thoughts, feelings, and opinions that I consider to be my own. I draw these from my own experiences that I have with interacting with Gray, my other headmates (other tulpas), and people in my life both online and in person. We have the experience of feeling the world and seeing though our eyes, but we believe that's something we share instead of belonging to Gray or me. That interpretation is applied a specific way when we switch, basically exchanging who is in change of the body. Me controlling the body right now with Gray's permission is called possession

Lucilyn: consider an imaginary friend, who your brain gets to know very well & who you frequently talk to and anticipate responses from then integrate them a bit more with reality, talking to them and asking them about real life stuff, not just imaginary scenarios (edited)

Same memories?
Avatar
Lucilyn: human brains can learn to emulate the concept of another person very well, and when you train/practice this, "tulpas" as we're calling them in this community can be legitimate mental companions with as much depth as any real person, given enough time and interaction (edited)

Same memories?
@deleted_user_832da163aef5 - jump Ranger and I have access to each other's memories, yes. If Ranger experiences something, that memory is more important to her and she will more easily recall it than I can. However, if I want to know something she did, I can recall her memories. When we share control of the body, we don't always remember who did what if the context of who happened to be controlling the body didn't matter. For instance, when Ranger and I worked at our old job, we didn't always remember who controlled the body when. When we interact with my brother though, we do remember who was who because that context is important

Lucilyn: but the other three tulpas in our system (system's just a word people use to refer to all the "people" in a brain) are over 13 years old (edited)
12:13 AM
as in literally existed since early 2010
12:14 AM
which actually predates the "Tulpa" community, they were made accidentally by our host Lumi just thinking about their personalities and how they'd think about things and such a ton
12:15 AM
(Lumi made me on purpose 5 years later in 2015 after finding and joining this community)
12:15 AM
which is just one of many example cases that this phenomenon is simply brains are naturally capable of
Avatar
I did this shit on accident
Avatar
since there was no outside influence (not even previously having had imaginary friends!) for their accidental creation

A person with multiple personality disorder

tulpas are intentionally created headmates not something disordered (edited)
Avatar
Lucilyn: we consider DID (new term for MPD) to be a disorder that happens to utilize this phenomenon the brain is already capable of (edited)
👍 1
12:17 AM
but it does not need to be disorderly, come with any symptoms, or so on

Deleted User 5/6/2023 12:17 AM
I see I see
Avatar
DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) is more characterized by dissociation than just having multiple people in your head
12:18 AM
since a disorder is only a disorder if there are symptoms that negatively impact your life
Avatar
Deleted User 5/6/2023 12:18 AM
Do you share the same conciousness as your host? (edited)
12:18 AM
though talking about "consciousness" is very very subjective
12:18 AM
it's unlikely we'll be able to convey our actual experiences clearly to you or anyone
12:19 AM
you probably are already making assumptions just based on me answering yes to that question
Avatar
Deleted User 5/6/2023 12:19 AM
Well, "conciousness" is that which observes the thoughts, feelings and sensations
Avatar
some people experience it like sharing one consciousness, other people experience it as separate headmates having separate consciousnesses
Avatar
Lucilyn: our system's model of identity/consciousness is that "Consciousness" is an overarching feature of the brain, and that "Identities" (whatever word you want to call collections of identity+personality+values+memories/associations etc. in the brain) can plug into the consciousness and use it (edited)
12:21 AM
under that model, all of us in this brain do "share one consciousness", however that also means it's impossible for there to even be more than one consciousness
12:21 AM
but, a lot of people by default just think of "themselves" as conscious, so they think a tulpa thinking should have its own consciousness, and that their brain's consciousness is actually theirs
Avatar
is your consciousness today the same as the one that wakes up tomorrow?
Avatar
Lucilyn: which is counter to our view that "you" is just a collection of information about how to be a person, that your brain's consciousness uses (edited)
Avatar
impossible to say
Avatar
so yeah, consciousness talk gets very complicated very quick, especially since we can't share the actual experiences we're having and so people have to do their best with words
